Wan2.1
by Wan-Video
Wan2.1 is a set of open video generation models that can create short videos from text or images, and can also edit video. It is for people who want to run AI video generation on their own graphics card rather than pay for a hosted service.

What you can do with it
- Generate a short video clip from a written description
- Animate a still image into a video clip
- Edit existing video or generate videos containing Chinese and English text
Make money with it
A freelancer could offer short AI-generated video clips or animated product images to small businesses as a paid content service.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Produce short product or social media video clips in-house without paying per-clip fees to a hosted video service
- Create animated adverts or storyboards from product photos for clients
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Clone the repository, install the Python dependencies with pip, and download the model weights from Hugging Face or ModelScope; it also works through ComfyUI and Diffusers.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Needs a powerful GPU (about 8 GB of VRAM for the small model, much more for the larger ones)
- Generation is slow, around 4 minutes for a 5-second 480p clip on an RTX 4090
- Benchmark claims come from the authors and are not independently checked
- Check the model weights' terms and the legal position of generated content before commercial use
