shockwave

by stephengpope

Shockwave is a desktop notes app that keeps your notes as plain Markdown files in a folder you own, with a built-in AI agent that organises them and carries out tasks. It syncs between devices through your own GitHub repository and runs scheduled jobs on a small server you set up yourself.

Worth a lookEstablished, with a few things to check (listed below).

What you can do with it

  • Keep notes, ideas and to-do lists as Markdown files that an AI agent tidies and updates for you
  • Schedule recurring agent jobs, such as a morning review of yesterday's notes, or one-off reminders
  • Message the agent on Telegram, including voice notes, photos and documents, to work on your notes from your phone

Make money with it

A freelancer could set up and configure Shockwave, with its server, sync and scheduled routines, as a paid setup service for non-technical clients.

An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.

Ways a business could use it

  • Keep project notes, client tasks and due dates in one place, with the agent sorting them and drafting a daily to-do list
  • Set up scheduled agent jobs for routine admin, such as reviewing notes each morning or sending reminders, instead of paying for separate tools

Can you use it commercially?

Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.

Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.

Getting it running

Download the desktop app for macOS, Windows or Linux, then run a one-line install script on your own Linux server and fill in three settings pages (server, GitHub token, model provider key).

Follow the official instructions in the project README.

Things to check

  • Needs your own Linux server (VPS), which costs money
  • Needs a paid API key from an AI model provider
  • Desktop apps are unsigned, so you get security warnings on first run
  • Needs a GitHub personal access token for sync
  • Promotes a paid community in the README

Who's talking about it
