odysseus
by odysseus-dev
Odysseus is a self-hosted AI workspace that brings chat, AI agents, research, document editing, email, notes and calendar into one web app. It is for people who want to use local or API-based AI models on their own server instead of relying on a hosted service.

What you can do with it
- Chat with local or API-based AI models and run agents that use tools, files and memory
- Run multi-step web research and get a written report with sources
- Manage email, notes, tasks and calendar with AI triage, summaries and reply drafts
Make money with it
A freelancer could offer research reports or AI-assisted writing and admin services, using the workspace to produce them faster.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Draft email replies, summarise inboxes and write documents faster without paying for several separate AI subscriptions
- Run market and competitor research reports in-house, keeping client and business data on your own server
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use. Anything you distribute that includes it must be open-sourced under the same licence. Running it as an online service also counts, so a hosted version must offer its source.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Clone the repository, copy the example environment file and start it with Docker Compose, then open it on port 7011.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- AGPL-3.0 licence requires sharing source changes if you offer it as a network service
- Has powerful local tools such as shell access, so it must be secured with authentication and not exposed publicly
- Needs paid API keys unless you run local models, which may need a capable GPU
- The default branch is the development branch, so it may be less stable
