AudioScript
by niyongsheng
AudioScript is a desktop app that listens to your computer's audio or microphone and shows live subtitles in a floating window, with a translation underneath. Speech recognition and translation run on your own machine, so it works offline.

What you can do with it
- Show live bilingual subtitles over foreign-language videos, podcasts or online meetings
- Capture system audio, a microphone, or both mixed together for transcription
- Adjust the subtitle overlay's font size, opacity and number of lines, and choose between several recognition and translation models
Make money with it
Someone could offer a translation or subtitle-drafting service for foreign-language video and audio, using the live transcripts as a first draft to check and correct.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Follow international calls or webinars in a language you do not speak fluently without paying for a live interpreting service
- Review foreign-language competitor videos, training material or podcasts with on-screen translated text
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Download a ready-made installer from the project website, or build it yourself with pnpm and Tauri, which fetches the models (about 59 MB for the main ones).
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Sends anonymous usage analytics through Aptabase unless you turn it off in settings
- The optional NLLB-200 translation model is licensed for non-commercial use only
- Translation quality of the bundled small models may be limited, and system translation needs macOS 26 or later
