herk-edit-kit
by nateherkai
A kit of skills, scripts and templates that lets Codex or Claude Code edit your own video footage. It cuts silences and mistakes, plans the story, adds captions and motion graphics, and produces reels, YouTube Shorts and showreels for review.

What you can do with it
- Cut dead air and spoken mistakes from a recording, then review the proposed cuts before rendering
- Turn a raw recording into a 9:16 reel or YouTube Short with captions, B-roll and sound design
- Build a 15-second motion-graphics showreel cut to a music beat grid using the card and scene templates
Make money with it
A freelancer could sell short-form video editing to creators and local businesses, using the kit to produce drafts quickly and finishing them by hand.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Produce short promotional reels and ads from a single recorded take without paying an editor
- Offer a faster video-editing service to clients by using the skills to create first drafts for review
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell (MIT-style terms in the licence file). Some folders may carry other terms.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Install Node.js 22 or newer, Git, FFmpeg and Chrome, then clone the repository and run npm ci, npm run setup and npm test.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Licence is not clearly stated
- Needs a Codex or Claude Code subscription to run the editing skills
- Transcription and asset generation use paid services (ElevenLabs Scribe, Kie.ai) unless you switch to Whisper
- Output is an agent-guided draft and needs human review before publishing
