morphic
by miurla
Morphic is a self-hostable AI search engine that answers questions with cited sources and shows results as rich on-page components rather than plain text. It is for people who want their own private alternative to AI search services, using their choice of AI model and search provider.

What you can do with it
- Ask research questions and get answers with cited sources and inline images
- Switch between AI providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or a local Ollama model
- Share search results through unique links and keep chat history in a database
Make money with it
A freelancer could set up and host private AI search instances for small firms as a paid installation and support service.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Give a team a private research assistant for market and competitor research without paying per-seat subscriptions
- Run a branded AI search page for clients or a niche community, using your own model and search settings
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Clone the repository, add an AI provider API key to the environment file, then start everything with Docker Compose (or run it with Bun, or deploy to Vercel).
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Needs a paid API key from an AI provider unless you use a local Ollama model
- Several supporting services (PostgreSQL, Redis, SearXNG) must run alongside it
- Search results depend on third-party search providers, whose terms and costs may apply
