youtube-subscriptions-ingest

by EfficientStreet

A Python command-line tool that pulls video details from the channels you subscribe to on YouTube and turns them into linked notes in an Obsidian-style notes folder. Each video gets its own note, connected to topic and tool pages so you can see everything you have saved on a subject.

Worth a lookEstablished, with a few things to check (listed below).

What you can do with it

  • Fetch titles, descriptions, views and dates from all your YouTube subscriptions into local files
  • Build one note per video with clickable timestamp links and wikilinks to topics and tools
  • Re-run it safely to add new videos without creating duplicates

Make money with it

Someone could offer a paid research or curation service that turns a client's chosen YouTube channels into a organised, searchable knowledge base.

An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.

Ways a business could use it

  • Track what competitors and industry channels are publishing, and search it later by topic or tool
  • Build a searchable research library from training videos so a small team can find the right video quickly

Can you use it commercially?

Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.

Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.

Getting it running

Clone the repository, run pip install -r requirements.txt, then create your own free Google Cloud OAuth credentials and add them to a .env file.

Follow the official instructions in the project README.

Things to check

  • Topic and tool detection uses simple keyword matching tuned to AI, automation and business channels, so you must edit it for other subjects
  • Needs you to set up your own Google Cloud OAuth credentials
  • Relies on the YouTube Data API, which has usage quotas
  • Small, early project from a first-time publisher

Who's talking about it
