pi
by earendil-works
Pi is a small, customisable AI coding agent that runs in the terminal, along with the libraries used to build it. It lets you hand tasks to an AI model working in your project folder, or build your own agent apps with its TypeScript SDK.

What you can do with it
- Ask an AI agent to write, edit and fix code in a project from the terminal
- Add your own extensions, skills, prompt templates and themes to fit your workflow
- Build your own agent apps using the TypeScript SDK or the unified multi-provider LLM library
Make money with it
A freelance developer could use it to deliver client coding projects faster, or package custom extensions and agent tools as a paid service.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Speed up building and maintaining websites, scripts and internal tools without hiring extra developers
- Automate repetitive technical tasks by running the agent in print or JSON mode within your own workflows
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Install with the one-line script from pi.dev or with npm (Node.js 22.19 or newer), then run /login to connect an AI provider; Nix is also supported.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Needs an AI provider subscription or paid API key to be useful
- No built-in permission system: it runs with your user's full permissions unless you sandbox it
- New issues and pull requests from new contributors are auto-closed
