AI agents and automation

openharness

by autonomous-ai

OpenHarness is a desktop app and command-line tool that lets you run and manage several AI coding agents, such as Claude Code and Codex, across your own computers from one window. It also offers add-on "harnesses" so agents can work with tools like Blender, circuit simulators and robotics software.

Worth a lookEstablished, with a few things to check (listed below).

What you can do with it

  • Run Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and other agents side by side, each in its own terminal and git worktree
  • Link a laptop, home server and GPU machine and control all their agents from one window
  • Install store harnesses so an agent can work with Blender, CircuitJS or MuJoCo

Make money with it

A freelance developer could use it to run several agents at once and take on more client projects in the same time.

An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.

Ways a business could use it

  • Let a small development team or freelancer run several coding agents in parallel on separate branches to ship client work faster
  • Use a spare home server or GPU machine to run agents remotely, avoiding the cost of extra cloud hosting

Can you use it commercially?

Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.

Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.

Add it to Claude Code

claude mcp add harness -- npx -y @autonomous-ai/harness-mcp

From the official MCP Registry (ai.autonomous.harness/harness). Only connect MCP servers you trust: they can act on your behalf.

Getting it running

Download the macOS or Linux app, then run a shell install script on each machine and log in with the harness command; tmux is needed, and building from source needs Node.js and Flutter.

Follow the official instructions in the project README.

Things to check

  • Needs separate accounts or paid subscriptions for the agents it manages, such as Claude Code or Codex
  • Relies on a hosted relay and login service run by the vendor
  • Desktop app supports only macOS and Linux
  • Agent Messages feature is experimental

Worth a look

iFixAi is a command-line tool that tests an AI agent by placing it in a simulation of your business and sending it realistic requests, including ones that push it beyond its role. A separate AI judge grades each reply, so you can see whether the agent behaves as intended.

Worth a look

Claude-mem records what an AI coding assistant does during a session, summarises it with AI, and feeds the relevant parts back into later sessions. It is for people who want their coding agent to remember project decisions and history instead of starting from scratch each time.
