open-duet
by Anil-matcha
Open Duet is a self-hosted workspace for creating named AI agents that each have instructions, memory, a workspace and approval settings. It lets you hand work to a team of agents, run scheduled routines and review what they do, using an AI engine you already have.

What you can do with it
- Create named agents for research, writing, support or development, each with its own instructions, memory and workspace
- Set a lead agent to delegate tasks to specialists and turn a useful task into a weekly scheduled routine
- Track tasks and deadlines on a board and calendar, and approve or review agent actions before they run

Make money with it
A freelancer could set up and run tailored agent teams and scheduled routines for clients, such as recurring research or reporting, as a paid service.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Run a weekly routine that drafts project briefings or research summaries from files in a shared folder, saving admin time
- Use specialist agents for first-draft writing, support replies or code tasks, with approval on before anything is acted on
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
Clone the repository and run it with npm from the desktop folder, which needs Node.js 22+, uv and an engine such as Claude Code, Codex CLI or an API; a server install and Windows and macOS installers are also available but experimental.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Still in active development; desktop, server and agent computers are marked experimental
- Installers are unsigned and the update path is unverified
- Does not include a model, so you need a provider account or API key and usage may cost money
- Server mode supports a single owner only
- Prompts and workspace content go to the chosen engine, which may be a hosted service
- Computer and browser access for agents are experimental
