ponytail
by DietrichGebert
Ponytail is a prompt and plugin that tells an AI coding agent to write only the code a task needs, reusing what already exists. It is for people who use agents such as Claude Code or Codex and want smaller, cheaper changes that still include tests and security checks.

What you can do with it
- Install it into Claude Code or Codex so the agent writes less code and reuses what your project already has
- Run /ponytail-review or /ponytail-audit to check a change or a whole repo for bugs, security issues, missing tests and code to cut
- Track the cost, tokens, agent time and test results of each task in the Claude Code band and local board
Make money with it
A freelance developer could use it to deliver client features faster and with fewer lines to maintain, or offer repo audits using the audit command.
An idea, not financial advice. Check the licence before charging for anything built on it.
Ways a business could use it
- Cut the token spend and review time of AI-assisted development by getting smaller changes from the agent
- Use the review and audit commands to catch bugs, security gaps and missing tests in a small team's code before release
Can you use it commercially?
Free to use, change and sell, including in paid products. Keep the copyright notice.
Not legal advice. Read the project's licence file before building a product on it.
Getting it running
In Claude Code you add it with two /plugin commands, in Codex with two codex plugin commands, and for other agents you copy AGENTS.md or SKILL.md into your project.
Follow the official instructions in the project README.
Things to check
- Needs an AI coding agent, which usually means a paid subscription or API usage
- Benchmark figures come from the author's own tests
- The band display needs Claude Code 2.1.290 or later and does not appear in every Claude Code environment
